  1. Kia ora Cameron,

Welcome to the Summer Learning Journey for 2017-2018! My name is Emiely (pronounced "Emily") and I will be replying to your blogs. You have made a fantastic and early start to the Summer Learning Journey.

Thank you for adding a clear title so I know which task you are referring to. That really helps me a lot! I like that you have added detail to your facts and also listed other myths about Maui - well done.

'Maui and the Sun' is probably my favourite Maori Myth! Which is your favourite myth about Maui? Here is a YouTube link to 'Maui and the Sun' if you wanted to watch it.

  3. Kia ora Cameron,

My name is Megan and I am part of the Summer Learning Journey team commenting on your posts over the summer.

You have made a great start to the Summer Learning Journey and shared some awesome facts with us. I really like how you recognised that Maui completed a karakia before releasing his fishing line. This is an important part of the legend which shares how important karakia's are to the Maori culture. Can you think of any other situations where you will see a karakia performed?

At uni, my class and I recite a karakia along with a waiata to bless our day in class. This also unites us together at the beginning of the day.

We are looking forward to seeing more excellent Summer Learning Journey activities from you. Keep up the awesome work.

    Have an awesome day,
    Megan :)
